On this page, I present butterfly/moth photos that I took with the Sony RX10 M4 in JPG format. I offer the photos as "out-of the-camera" JPGs for people who want to judge the image quality.
The following photos are original "out-of-the-camera" samples. Click the previews for opening the original size versions in another window or tab!
The photos were taken in June/July 2019 in Haute Loire, France, with my then new Sony RX10 M4. Most photos were taken as "tele macros", that is with a focal length of 600 mm (equivalent). At this focal length, you can get as close as about 70 cm from the front lens to an object. Many butterflies, however, do not let you get that close, sometimes the "flight" distance was between 1 and 2 m. I present the original photos in order to demonstrate how large the butterflies typically get with this camera (without electronic zoom).
Usually, I crop the photos for more pleasing pictures. Note, however, that the smaller size also means a loss in image quality! And, of course, I would do some contrast enhancements (I usually do not change colors). See the EXIF data of the original versions for the camera settings!
The photos are a little bit sorted now. I labelled some of them but am often usure...
