Introduction | Map | My Own Photos | My Own Observations | References
On this page I collect my observations of the elliptical galaxy NGC 4697 in the constellation Virgo.
On photos, the galaxy NGC 4697 in the constellation Virgo is a small elliptical galaxy. It is the main member of the galaxy group NGC 4697. Actually, this massive elliptical galaxy is slightly larger than the Andromeda galaxy and deforms its neighbors through its gravitational influence. By studying the motion of stars near the center of the galaxy, a supermassive black hole of about 100 million solar masses has been identified at the heart of the galaxy (Deep*Sky Corner, translated).
