NGC 2419

On this page I collect my observations of the globular star Cluster NGC 2419 (Intergalactic Wanderer) in the constellation Lynx.

Introduction

The globular star Cluster NGC 2419 (Intergalactic Wanderer) in the constellation Lynx was originally regarded as located outside of the Milky Way, hence its name. At the time of its discovery, the size of the Milky Way was underestimated.

NGC 2419 is the most distant globular cluster that I have observed. It is located in the spherical halo of the Milky Way, which has a radius of about 1 billion light years (thus, in just under a third of the radius of the halo).
