On this page I collect my observations of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 2403 in the constellation Camelopardis.
The barred spiral galaxy NGC 2403 in the constellation Camelopardis is regarded as one of the best galaxies for small telescopes. It remains unclear why Messier overlooked it. It is fairly impressive in the eVscope, but a little small in the Vespera.
The galaxy is a member of the M 81 Group.
NGC 2403
Size: 7' x 4' / 21.9' × 12.3' (Stoyan/Wikipedia)
Distance: 13/10 million light years (Stoyan/Wikipedia)
Rating: ** (Stoyan)
The M 81 Group is a galaxy group in the constellations Ursa Major and Camelopardalis that includes the galaxies Messier 81 and Messier 82, as well as several other galaxies with high apparent brightnesses.
