On this page I collect my observations of the globular star cluster M 9 (NGC 6333) in the constellation Ophiuchus.
The globular star cluster M 9 is located in the constellation Ophiuchus/Serpent Bearer. According to Stoyan, it resembles many other globular clusters in this constellation. M 9 is quite small, bright, and concentrated towards the center.
Size: 3' (Stoyan)
Distance: 22,000 light years (Stoyan)
Rating: ** (Stoyan)
M 9 in constellation Ophiuchus/Serpent Bearer is located to the left and below of the star Sabik and fairly in the south. (Image Courtesy of SkySafari Astronomy, www.simulationcurriculum.com)
Find: M 9 is located to the left and below of the star Sabik at the lower left corner of constellation Ophiuchus and fairly in the south (see map above).
Identify: If you found the star Sabik (at the bottom left of constellation Ophiuchus), you will also be able to identify M 9.
