IC 443 - Jellyfish Nebula

Introduction | Map | My Own Photos | My Own Observations | References

On this page I collect my observations of the supernaova remnant IC 443 (Jellyfish Nebula; Sharpless 248 = Sh2-248) in the constellation Gemini.

Introduction

IC 443 (Jellyfish Nebula) in the constellation Gemini may be the remains of a supernova that occurred 30,000 (or 3,000...) - 35,000 years ago. IC 443 is one of the best-researched supernova remnants.

IC 443 (Sharpless 248 = Sh2-248)
Size: 50' x 40' (SkySafari)
Distance: 5,000/1,500 light years (Wikipedia/SkySafari)
Rating: ---

Note: NGC 6960/6992/5 (Cirrus or Veil Nebula), M 1 (Crab Nebula), and IC 443 (Jellyfish Nebula) are the only supernova remnants that I have observed so far.
