IC 1805/1848/1795

On this page I collect my observations of the galactic nebulae IC 1805 (Heart Nebula), IC 1848 (Soul Nebula), and IC 1795 (NGC 896, Fish Head Nebula) in the constellation Cassiopeia.

Introduction

The galactic nebulae IC 1805 (Heart Nebula, IC 1848 (Soul Nebula) and IC 1795 (NGC 896, Fish Head Nebula) form a larger nebulosity region in the constellation Cassiopeia, not far away from the Perseus Double Cluster NGC 869/884. Together, the two nebalulae are called Heart and Soul Nebula.

The Fish Head Nebula (IC 1795, NGC 896), next to IC 1805, is the brightest region and was therefore discovered first (by William Herschel). This brightest part of the nebula is also called NGC 896 (what Herschel discovered and is sometimes called Fish Head Nebula) and IC 1795 is a fainter outlier north of it (that is how I understand Stoyan's books...).

The (hi)story about these nebulae can be read here: www.deepskycorner.ch/ic1805/ic1805.de.php
